New Goldwork Weekend Class Now Available

Thursday 23rd May 2019 by Natasha Searls-Punter

We may have seemed a little quiet of recent, but it is only because we have been beavering away on this lovely new set of classes to bring you for this summer.

The Goldwork Letters Weekend Classes offer a new outcome to the way you learn goldwork by splitting them into 4 managable bites. At each class you will learn a specific fill and edging technique set so you can dip in and out of the classes with the techniques you like the most. Best of all, you can work on a letter of your choice and will leave well on your way to having your personalised piece which you could make into patch, pin or present in a little hoop.
Fear not, the Goldwork Day Class will still exist if you prefer to learn your techniques at a more intensive pace.
Follow the links for all the details,  we hope to see you and your letters soon!

September’s Student of the Month

Friday 28th September 2018 by Natasha Searls-Punter

Today we have a new student of the month…Robin Schweitzer (aka. @robinzahood)!

Have a look at the beautiful black work she has been working on in and following her Private Tuition session with the London Embroidery School’s Amy Burt.

This kind of counted stitches work can be very time consuming but the intricacy of the patterns used to create these shading effects is oh so satifying.

If you would like to be our student of the month, next month, use the hashtag #londonembroideryschool when posting the images of your work from class on instagram so we can see your progress and hand out some more discount vouchers!

Tambour 2 Day Weekend Workshop

Friday 18th August 2017 by claire

The London Embroidery School is now running a two day Tambour Beading Course which takes place on weekends. This is an intensive workshop that is an introduction to the couture skill of tambour, through to some of the more professional applications of the technique.

Saturday: At the start we will focus on the essential tambour chain stitches. Learning the knack of the hook, through the fabric and then the process of creating the loop stitch which is the basis of all tambour work. Once you have got the hang of the stitches, we will focus on using your newly found skills to learn to apply beads and sequins to fabric.

Sunday: Moving on from Saturday’s line based skills, we will concentrate on developing into fill techniques. Firstly bricking – which encourages the refinement and regularity of your stitches and then Vermicelli – which works on constantly changing direction. This ensures you are focusing on your tension and helps to create smooth curves.

Finally, we will cover another dimension entirely by testing your stitch technique through two layers of fabric, specifically lace, and the introduction of different sized hooks.  Appliqué is a crafty way of filling areas when needed and is a perfect companion for tambour.

The next workshop is on Saturday 26th August & Sunday 27th August – 10am – 4:30pm so click here book your place now!

Your purchase will include your very own table clamp frame and tambour hook and handle, which you can then take home after the workshop to practice!
