Christmas UK Postage Deadline Fast Approaches

Friday 11th December 2020 by Natasha Searls-Punter Leave a Comment

postage, orders, Christmas orders, deliveries, embroidery school, embroidery, kits, online classes

All our embroidery online class kits, whether Chrismas gift wrapped or not, come presented beautifully in a recyclable box so that you get a fun unboxing experience when you receive your parcel. In this year when we might not be able to see one another as we usually would, sending someone the gift of a skill or something you have made with your new skills has an enhanced meaning.

As the final postage date before Christmas creeps ever closer (15th Dec for UK) , get your order into us to avoid disappointment as we can’t wait to see what you will go on to stitch.

We will continue to be working and post items out until the 20th Dec, but cant say for sure they will arrived before Christmas. After that all new orders will be despatched by the 6th Jan 2021.

October’s Student of the Month…

A new month rolls in and so we have a new student of the month to announce…. @dee_elizabeth13

Tambour Online Class 1: Stitches by @dee_elizabeth13

Despite finding the tambour process a little frustrating, Dee persevered and as you can see from the above, did a great job of her first tambour project.

Sharing the creative learning process, from her Instagram it would seem that she uses creative outlets as a kind of mindfulness which we think is a fabulous approach to creativity. The challenges faced during the learning process make the end result all the sweeter and I’m sure will have bolstered her confidence as she moves onto Part 2 Tambour: Beads

Daisy Embroidery project by @dee_elizabeth13

She easily switches between different creative outcomes as there a a range of techniques displayed in her profile as well as some incredible cakes, knitting, bead weaving… You name it!

September’s Student of the Month

Tambour, tambour Beading, Beading, Moon, Embroidery, Embellishments, student of the month

It would seem like for those in the UK, autumn is well and truly here. Behind us are the days of wanting to spend all our time outside (Covid permitting). Bring on those snuggly months with a blanket, hot chocolate and the desire to stay inside and perhaps, I don’t know, maybe do some stitching. Like this month’s student of the month who has definitely been getting their stitching hours in recently @diannasmith646

Tambour Online Class 2: Beads by @diannasmith646

Here is someone who with a swift glance at their Instagram page, clearly loves textiles and making and craft in it’s forms. Dianna took out Tambour Online Class Series and wasted no time in getting started and dedicating her skills to this technique.

As you can see above, here winning picture is of her tambour 2 outcome, the beads class of the tambour series where she shows a real finesse for this style of embroidery. The other parts of the class are also very good, but that one just had the edge for us. It would seem that Dianna sensed that in herself too as she has already started and made serious headway on testing a new project with her tambour skills.

Bringing a great sense of humour to her craft projects, check her Instagram out if you need a little motivation as you will find it in spades. Dianna seems to be able to jump between different techniques very easily and goes to show how varied and exciting making things with your own hands can be.

March’s Student of the Month

Wednesday 1st April 2020 by Natasha Searls-Punter Leave a Comment

There have been a lot of changes and updates at the London Embroidery School this month, and we would like to use student of the month to highlight one of of far flung students who has taken hold of our #valrosechallenge and made it her own. @mybricole has been stitching her valentino roses from the video as her downtime from making masks for her local hospital.

We count 9 roses to date (but wouldn’t be surpised to find out there were more!) testing out lots of different fabrics with the same design to investigate the differences between them.

As well as being a dab hand at making roses, she makes quilts and other keepsakes which she shares on her instagram  and on her craft journal website so check thouse out if you’d like to see more from her makes.

If you would like to be the April’s #studentofthemonth, use the hashtag #londonembroideryschool or tag us when sharing your photos from your London Embroidery School class or the things you have gone onto make following one of our class.

S.E.W’s first Embroidery Exhibition

Thursday 19th December 2019 by Natasha Searls-Punter

exhibition, museum, visit, embroidery, sewing, girl go the vale, embroidery exhibition

Last month, the Society for Embroidered Works held their very first exhibiton dedicated solely to embroidery. The International Contemporary Stitched Art Exhibiton was held in a characterful space in Clerkenwell, the turn out for quite a niche exhibition looked to be pretty good.

‘Despite her strength she remained on guard 1’ 25×21 cm by Christina MacDonald

The exhibition a great cross section of stitched art in its many forms, as you can see from the few photos included here, the range was quite broad so there was a little something to interest everyone.

‘Lady Gaga’ 34×34 cm by Sarah Gwyer

Providing a platform for stitched art is an important step in elevating the stitched art’s status within the artwork as historically it has been downgraded from art and though of more as ‘women’s work’ or ‘home crafts’. Whilst one might argue these terms to be fair, it would be equally fair to say that given the skills and conceptual strenghts of these pieces shown are most certainly ‘art’.

‘A Benediction  from the Old World’ 62×46 cm by Kate Tume

Presenting them in this manner is an important part of S.E.W’s bigger mission to ‘redefine’ the stitched arts to a more apropriate status. If you would like to read more about S.E.W’s mission, have a look at their website.

‘Sisters’ 56x72cm by Bridget Steel-Jessop

Given the level of work on display at this first exhibition, we can’t wait to see what they will present to the art world next year!
