Goldwork Letter 3 is Out Now!

Friday 22nd January 2021 by Natasha Searls-Punter Leave a Comment

Goldwork Letters Style 3: Cutwork with padding and Pearle Purl edging is here. The final step in our goldwork for lettering series aimed at those who have done some goldwork before and are ready to apply those skills more specifically. Taught by breaking the letters down into their characteristics, we discuss the intricacies of the elements you will face and how to deal with each of them as well as showing how to bring all those elements together into one considered, cohesive outcome.

There are no kits for this class as we encourage you to make your own creative material choices for a truly personalised outcome. Do check out the materials listed on the class for our guide to what you’ll need. Head over to the London Embroidery school website for all the details and access to our most technically advanced goldwork class to date.

Goldwork Letters Online Class

Friday 30th October 2020 by Natasha Searls-Punter Leave a Comment

Hello goldwork enthusiasts, this new class we have to offer is especially for you. The Goldwork Letters Online Class: Chipping and Pearle Purl is the first goldwork technique combination we will be teaching specifically for a lettering outcome. There will be more goldwork lettering classes to come, each a stand alone class, demonstrating different goldwork technique combinations for letters. These classes will be taught in a slightly different style to our usual, as they are for those with a bit of goldwork experience. We will be demonstrating on two letters which we will be breaking down into 6 characteristics, allowing you to apply those characteristics to whichever letters you want to work on.

When you make your purchase you can nominate which letter template you would like to be sent which will identify the characteristics you should be paying particular attention to and suggest what types of materials you will need as there are no kits to go specifically with this class, so you can have more creative control over your piece.

Head over to the London Embroidery school website for all the details and to start designing your own lettering outcome which can be made into Christmas decorations (see pro tips), wall hangings (see pro tips) , hair accessories, brooches…

Plunging, Pearle Purl and (string) Pad additions to the Pear

Friday 24th July 2020 by Natasha Searls-Punter Leave a Comment

We are getting into the more tricky techniques of the goldwork pear design now, starting off this class with plunging, the rather dramatic sounding way to finish off our couching from the last class.

Furthering our finishing touches, we then will be adding the very pleasing looking pearle purl edging before we explore a new padding method with string. This will bring us to step up the difficulty towards the end of the class as we take our first foray into the challenging technique of cutwork.

Get your copy of this next class on our website or if you are new to the goldwork pear design, get started by choosing one of our bundle options to grab yourself a discount on this design. There are now three of the four class parts available with the final one coming next Friday, so plenty of stitching to keep you busy till then! Check back on the 31st July for the final instalment, or have it sent direct to you on it’s release when you buy a bundle option.

Fancy Trying your Hand at Goldwork?

Friday 10th July 2020 by Natasha Searls-Punter Leave a Comment

We hope you are ready for this, we have been working away in the background to bring a longer class series out for our more established stitchers, so today we have the Goldwork Pear Class Series to bring before you. In this 4 part series we will be teaching you a range of traditional goldwork techniques, focusing on the process and getting into the fruity details of the wide variety of materials goldwork has to offer .

This class is aimed at stitchers with some embroidery experience, but who may or may not have necessarily done goldwork specifically before. If you have already taken our Introduction to Goldwork Cherry design then you are pretty much in a perfect position, as we will be taking a few of those materials and techniques, building on them and pressing forwards with your skills and finesse. We will discuss working on a multifaceted design starting by building good foundations with padding and raisings, adding smooth surfaces with applique, creating texture with chipping, couching and cutwork, before we work on finishings like plunging and pearle purl edging.

As always we have prepared kits for you so you can jump right into the fun bit and get stitching. There will be Deluxe and Mini level kits depending on the equipment you may already have at home as someone who has already done a bit of embroidery. We will also be offering bundle packages which brings your choice of kit and all the classes into one transaction with a discount. Or you can buy each class as they are released on Fridays over the course of the month of July in their 40- 50 minute video bite size chunks.

You know what to do, pop over to the London Embroidery School website and head to the online classes section to make your selection.

January’s Student of the Month

Friday 31st January 2020 by Natasha Searls-Punter

This month’s student of the month is @elena.grandi00 who has just finished this piece of goldwork, featuring bright check chipping and pearle purl edging.

Elena has taken a few classes with us over the years, one of which was a goldwork course which you can see in these more recent works.

She has a passion for Cosplay and this piece looks like it will go towards one of her stunning costumes, we cant wait to see the finished effect.

Her skills are not restricted to her cosplay though as she works as a seamstress for Ballet and Opera in Rome.

Check out her instagram account for other pieces she has worked on and costumes she has made as you will find some serious inspiration!

If you would like to be the february #studentofthemonth, use the hashtag #londonembroideryschool or tag us when sharing your photos from your London Embroidery School class or the things you have gone onto make following one of our class.

Be apart of our new Weekend Workshops, starting this month with Goldwork

Friday 6th March 2015 by claire

Our newest range of workshops is starting this month with Goldwork on Saturday 21st March. In this specialist workshop you will learn the basics to the highly coveted embroidery technique, the likes of which you may have seen on Military uniforms or on Frock Coats.

Despite the name goldwork , doesn’t always have to be gold, the example here uses black bullion in the traditional cutwork technique depicting a leaf based design.

Padding is put down first to lift and support the bullion, and then each piece is applied over the top of the padding.

A combination of rough (matte) and smooth purl (shiny) have been used to add texture to this piece

If you’d like to learn more, or join us for the workshop, you can get details using the link below
