Goldwork Christmas Star Kits are back!

Friday 13th November 2020 by Natasha Searls-Punter Leave a Comment

goldwork, gold work, goldwork star, product outcome, embroidery, advance, classes, kits, star, gold star, couching, wire,

With Christmas around the corner and us spending even more time at home we have this set of Christmassy goldwork kits to offer you. The Goldwork star kits are for those who have done some goldwork stitching before and are looking for a new challenge, the results of which can be enjoyed over the festive period. Coming in 5 styles which cover a range of levels these written instruction kits are ideal if you want some time away from screens to focus in on your stitching and make something really beautiful.

Each kit will allow you to make a piece with a pearle purl edge and a combination of two goldwork techniques to fill your star. The kits include all the materials you will need to make your chosen goldwork star design utilising the equipment you will likely already have, or can pick up from the specialist equipment section of our website.

Once completed these stars make a great addition to a classy tree or an eyecatching tree topper if you want to give it pride of place. Head over to the London Embroidery School website to see all the designs in detail.

A new month rolls in and so we have a new student of the month to announce…. @dee_elizabeth13

Tambour Online Class 1: Stitches by @dee_elizabeth13

Despite finding the tambour process a little frustrating, Dee persevered and as you can see from the above, did a great job of her first tambour project.

Tambour Online Class 1: Stitches in progress by @dee_elizabeth13

Sharing the creative learning process, from her Instagram it would seem that she uses creative outlets as a kind of mindfulness which we think is a fabulous approach to creativity. The challenges faced during the learning process make the end result all the sweeter and I’m sure will have bolstered her confidence as she moves onto Part 2 Tambour: Beads

Daisy Embroidery project by @dee_elizabeth13

She easily switches between different creative outcomes as there a a range of techniques displayed in her profile as well as some incredible cakes, knitting, bead weaving… You name it!

Goldwork Letters Online Class

Friday 30th October 2020 by Natasha Searls-Punter Leave a Comment

Gold work, goldwork, Mellor, Equipment, Monogram, Monogramming, Lettering, Chipping, embellishments, product outcome, online class,

Hello goldwork enthusiasts, this new class we have to offer is especially for you. The Goldwork Letters Online Class: Chipping and Pearle Purl is the first goldwork technique combination we will be teaching specifically for a lettering outcome. There will be more goldwork lettering classes to come, each a stand alone class, demonstrating different goldwork technique combinations for letters. These classes will be taught in a slightly different style to our usual, as they are for those with a bit of goldwork experience. We will be demonstrating on two letters which we will be breaking down into 6 characteristics, allowing you to apply those characteristics to whichever letters you want to work on.

When you make your purchase you can nominate which letter template you would like to be sent which will identify the characteristics you should be paying particular attention to and suggest what types of materials you will need as there are no kits to go specifically with this class, so you can have more creative control over your piece.

Head over to the London Embroidery school website for all the details and to start designing your own lettering outcome which can be made into Christmas decorations (see pro tips), wall hangings (see pro tips) , hair accessories, brooches…

Free Lace Jewellery Flowers Design Online Class

Friday 23rd October 2020 by Natasha Searls-Punter Leave a Comment

lace, jewellery, earrings, online class, beading, beads, sequins, hook, fish hook, pearl, embroidery

This class launch, Lace Jewellery Flowers Design, follows the success of the first of the first we released in this style, the leaves design. This too is aimed at our novice embroiderers where together we will be working to make a pair of embellished lace earrings. Using basic techniques we will guide you towards good practises as we add the beads and sequins to the lace, whilst considering the piece as a whole for a 3D outcome. If you are fairly new to embroidery then this one is great for you as we share some of our tips that will help you on your way. Oh and did we mention, the class itself is free so you can enjoy the techniques taught and apply them to your own projects if you like.

This approach is more of a challenge on how to be delicate and tension your work as it is a bit fiddly. The finished pieces make a lovely thing to gift to someone special as the outcomes are so pretty and will post well if you aren’t able to see one another particularly at the moment .

The flowers design kit will be the first design in this style, though there are more kits to come which you can apply the same techniques to, or freestyle it to really make them your own. Kits are available to purchase on our website so head there now to grab your class and choice of kit today.

September’s Student of the Month

Tuesday 6th October 2020 by Natasha Searls-Punter Leave a Comment

Tambour, tambour Beading, Beading, Moon, Embroidery, Embellishments, student of the month

It would seem like for those in the UK, autumn is well and truly here. Behind us are the days of wanting to spend all our time outside (Covid permitting). Bring on those snuggly months with a blanket, hot chocolate and the desire to stay inside and perhaps, I don’t know, maybe do some stitching. Like this month’s student of the month who has definitely been getting their stitching hours in recently @diannasmith646

Tambour Online Class 2: Beads by @diannasmith646

Here is someone who with a swift glance at their Instagram page, clearly loves textiles and making and craft in it’s forms. Dianna took out Tambour Online Class Series and wasted no time in getting started and dedicating her skills to this technique.

Tambour Online Class 1: Stitches by @diannasmith646

As you can see above, here winning picture is of her tambour 2 outcome, the beads class of the tambour series where she shows a real finesse for this style of embroidery. The other parts of the class are also very good, but that one just had the edge for us. It would seem that Dianna sensed that in herself too as she has already started and made serious headway on testing a new project with her tambour skills.

Tambour Bead project- Beaded purse by @diannasmith646

Bringing a great sense of humour to her craft projects, check her Instagram out if you need a little motivation as you will find it in spades. Dianna seems to be able to jump between different techniques very easily and goes to show how varied and exciting making things with your own hands can be.
