Plunging, Pearle Purl and (string) Pad additions to the Pear

Friday 24th July 2020 by Natasha Searls-Punter Leave a Comment

We are getting into the more tricky techniques of the goldwork pear design now, starting off this class with plunging, the rather dramatic sounding way to finish off our couching from the last class.

Furthering our finishing touches, we then will be adding the very pleasing looking pearle purl edging before we explore a new padding method with string. This will bring us to step up the difficulty towards the end of the class as we take our first foray into the challenging technique of cutwork.

Get your copy of this next class on our website or if you are new to the goldwork pear design, get started by choosing one of our bundle options to grab yourself a discount on this design. There are now three of the four class parts available with the final one coming next Friday, so plenty of stitching to keep you busy till then! Check back on the 31st July for the final instalment, or have it sent direct to you on it’s release when you buy a bundle option.

New Date for the Lace Series Course

Tuesday 13th November 2018 by Natasha Searls-Punter

On Saturday 24th November, we will be having a full day’s workshop dedicated to lace embroidery. Starting with Lace Applique, we will later move onto Broiderie Anglaise and finishing up with some Limerick Lace . We will introduce you to the techniques used in each of these styles of embroidery that give them their signature look whilst you practise a little of each.
Lace Applique. Starting with the original class we will be teaching the application of lace onto delicate fabrics, perfect for use on lingerie and evening wear. Dealing mainly with tension and placement this class will show you a very clever way of covering a lot of ground with pattern very quickly once in your stride.
Broiderie Anglaise. This tradition whitework lace technique creates an opaque cut work effect and will teach from applying your desired design onto cotton right through to creating the lace effect and stitches.
Limerick Lace. Incredibly delicate needlework lace created by stitching directly into the tulle and embracing the textures and patterns within the tulle itself. (reference flower image at the top in this style also)
Follow the link for more details and to book your place…

A new design and day to learn Silk Shading

Friday 3rd August 2018 by Natasha Searls-Punter

On Friday 5th October, we have a new silk shading course taking place where we will be working on this gorgeous honeysuckle design. This technique, sometimes known as ‘painting in stitches’ allows you to create fades and colour changes through the body of the embroidery by working with multiple threads. This is particularly useful for natural forms such as flowers, fruit and animals which, once mastered, can give a very realistic effect to the embroidery.

Notice how delicately the colours change through the flower to give depth to the petals.

The class will also include french knot buds, because you can never have too many french knots.

New Guest Tutor Course Now Available

Wednesday 27th June 2018 by Natasha Searls-Punter

Today is a very exciting day as we have a new guest tutor’s course to bring you in the shape of the ‘Surreal Stitches with Mother Eagle‘ Course!

I’m sure we dont need to tell you about Mother Eagle or the awesome work she produces, but on the off chance that she is someone you haven’t come across yet then let me take the opportunity to introduce you to your new favourite instagram fix @mother_eagle_embroidery

Katie Tume is an embroidery artist from Brighton, East Sussex. Born in 1980, she is a fifth-generation needleworker who first learned her craft at her mother’s knee. She attended the Surrey Institute of Art and Design as a Fashion and Illustration student, but is largely self-taught in hand embroidery techniques.

Katie’s work is influenced by folklore, mythology, burial customs and the old Gods. She is currently working on projects around our disappearing natural world, and lost species which have become her signature style.

The Surreal Stitches with Mother Eagle Course combines her style and techniques into a new artwork created for this course, the Divine Mushroom. Booking is now available for this class where you will be learn this original artwork from the artist herself. Follow the link here for more details and to secure your place.

The course will be taking place on 13th October, 10-4.30pm and 20th October 10-4.30pm at The London Embroidery School, Hawthorne & Heaney Studio, 14 Rathbone Place, W1T 1HT
