Let us introduce you to the beautiful art of Lace Applique in this hour long class from the London Embroidery School. Stitching along side us,you learn how to select, prepare and apply your lace for a stunning finish every time. With particular emphasis on the stitch techniques and tension of your lace, you can be confident in using your new applique skills.

Kits are also available to go along side this class if you wish to work on the same paisley lace pattern as us, however the approach can be applied to any lace you desire.  Lace Applique allows you to create relatively swift embroidered coverage, perfect for bridal, sprucing up older garments, or to use as a repair method for damaged fabrics that need some love.

Once purchased, the link to the class will be delivered to your email, taking you directly to the full class. You can watch the video as many times as you like, at your own convenience, in the comfort of your home.

Head over to the online classes section to purchase this class and kit to get started.

Masons Military Shop comes to the London Embroidery School

Wednesday 25th March 2020 by Natasha Searls-Punter

Royal Engineers Blazer Badge, Gold Badge, Cap Badge,Blazer, badge, Cap, Cap Badge, Blazer Badge, Vintage badge, military, military badge, military button

Along with our new bead and sequins section, we also have a selection of items now available on the London Embroidery School from Mason’s Military Shop. These include blazer and cap badges, cufflinks and buttons in military style from a range of squadrons, universities and establishments.

All the badges are hand made and vintage so they have plenty of character to them, no two are the same! They make great examples of the traditional application of techniques such as goldwork, applique and silk work which are beautiful pieces in their own right but can also serve to inform your own stitching progress.

With pieces starting at £9.99 for a cap badge, they are well worth a look if we do say so ourselves!

But alas it is better late than never so we can announce that our student of the month for August is @stinamacdo with the photos of her work from the Lace Applique Evening Class

She also took one of our Broiderie Anglaise Class and documented that too!

Also, check her out if you want to see some stunning blackwork as she has a wonderful range of works which show her skills in this technique.

Just gorgeous!

Pro Tips: Curved Scissors

Thursday 6th June 2019 by Natasha Searls-Punter

Scissors, Embroidery Scissors, Silver Scissors, Embroidery Scissors, Equipment, Materials, Snips, Fabric Scissors

We have touched on this one before, but in the studio we just cant get enough of these curved scissors. Although their curvy blades may look a bit tricky, they make cutting away fabrics close to each other very easy. They are designed to be used for applique specifically so when you have stitched down your two fabrics together and want to cut away the excess from the fabric being applied, the curve of the blades allows them to lay flat between layers without your hand having to be rubbing on or over pressuring the work you are doing in order to cut away.

Curved Scissors

£16.50

We have particually found this useful in the machine embroidery department as we spend a lot of time cutting away the excess backing once we are finished with a stitch out and for the same reasons, it makes this process very easy as shown.

New additions to the Scissor Family

Thursday 25th October 2018 by Natasha Searls-Punter

Scissors, Embroidery Scissors, Silver Scissors, Embroidery Scissors, Equipment, Materials, Snips, Fabric Scissors

We always have lots of projects on the go but today we have some new projects to bring to you that we have been working on for a little while behind the scenes. Within the studio’s embroiderers, we have a range of preferences on our scissors so we thought we should be bringing a bigger range of scissor choices for your embroidery also.

In addition to the classic styles of the Gold Plated Stork Scissors and the Brass Handle Embroidery Scissors we have three, yes three brand news styles to consider.

First up we have the Luxury Vintage Embroidery Scissors featuring the very cute hen design in a matte black metal finish with steal blades.  Accessoried with a super soft tassel these are a great gift for the crafter who has everything or if you enjoy surounding yourself with the finer things in life.

Secondly there are the Curved Scissors which as the name implies have a smooth curve to the blades to help get into tricky spots. The sleek design features blades which are 30mm long extending your reach even further for those tiny threads.

Finally we have the Precision Cut Embroidery Scissors. A much larger scissor than the others we offer  as they are 15 cm long with 45mm blades, they are create for all types of cutting tasks such as neatening seams, trimming quilt batting, lace and applique as well as for use on embroidery projects. Their unique protector bill helps to reduce the risk of knicking your work.

We hope there will be something there to suit your snipping needs, happy trimming!
