What do we do?
We are an hobby class school, teaching embroidery specific classes, private tuition and supplying embroidery equipment and materials.
Where are you based?
As the name suggests, London, specifically Fitzrovia. The closest station is Tottenham Court Road but we are walking distance from Oxford Circus, Goodge Street and Leicester Square as well.
Do you offer embroidery services as well?

I can’t find you, help!
As mentioned above, we have a sister company, Hawthorne & Heaney who are a working embroidery studio with whom we share the studio. Within the building, it is the Hawthorne & Heaney studio (downstairs) which you should be looking for as we do not have a shop front. The door to the building is a simple black door marked as no. 14 above the door which has the ‘Hawthorne & Heaney’ buzzer located on the left of the door.
Classes, Courses and Workshops
What is the booking process?
When you purchase your class online, you are booked onto your class. When the studio is next open (Monday – Friday 9-5pm) one of our team will contact you during the next working day with your personal confirmation email of your booking and so you have a direct contact to one of us should you need any further help or assistance with your booking.
Do I need any previous sewing experience?
That will depend on which class and at what level you would like to take. Beginners 101 is suitable for anyone with absolutely no stitching experience. All of the beginners level classes are aimed at people who have had a little general experience stitching (self taught or otherwise, but are comfortable threading a needle, tying a knot and creating a small range of basic stitches) but have not tried the technique which they wish to learn with us (Tambour, goldwork). Intermediate level classes require the participant to have taken a Beginners level class in that technique before taking part in the Intermediate class. This does not necessarily have to have been with the London Embroidery School but if you choose to take an Intermediate class having done beginners elsewhere, you do so under your own advisement.
Do you do Private Tuition and how do I arrange this?
Yes, we can arrange private tuition. Private tuition is a one on one class with the tutor at a time to suit you both. It is charged at £65 per hour during studio hours (10am-4pm Monday -Friday) or £85 outside of these times. There is a minimum booking of 3 hours per session; private tuition is held in our central London studio location.
You can take any of the classes advertised on the website in private tuition if the times of the group classes do not suit you. You would need the same amount of hours as you would have for the group classes (6 hours for beginners goldwork evening course for example). If you would like to do something we do not offer on the website, please email to enquire if we can help you.
To make a booking, please email us with the class you would like to take and your availability and we will get in touch with the appropriate tutors to arrange it for you. Payment for the tuition is required to confirm your booking.
Are materials and equipment included in my class?
For each of our classes, materials to participate in the class are provided and included in the price of the class. Each class will specify in the description whether equipment is included or not and what that equipment will be.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
If you have embroidery tools that you are particularly comfortable with and prefer to use then please bring them along for your comfort. Equally some people like to make notes or take pictures as they go along depending on how you learn best in which case please bring along a notepad or camera. Glasses for close work if you need them are always good to remember. Apart from those personal bits, we will provide everything else you will need to enjoy.
Do you offer student discount on your classes?
I’m afraid we do not offer student discount so should you wish to participate in a class, please make your booking as usual through the website
How do I cancel/rearrange a class?
Should you not be able to make your class please give us a minimum of 24 hours notice by email and we will look at a new date or alternative class that might work better for you (once). We are unfortunately unable to rearrange classes with less than 24 hours notice prior to the start of the class. Classes and courses are non-refunable. (NB: Introduction to Machine Embroidery is not transferable.)

Quite possibly, drop us an email with what you are trying to achieve and what the issues you are having are and we can try and point you in the right direction. Most likely you would need a consultation about your project/ some teaching which would be classed as private tuition. (see the private tuition section)

Can I come to the school to make a purchase?
The London Embroidery School is only available to make a purchase in person during classes when your tutor will be able to help you. Outside of these times, we are a working embroidery studio (Hawthorne & Heaney) and therefore we do not have a shop front for you to come and browse the shop items. The best way to make your purchase is to do so online.
