Karen Nicol

Friday 11th December 2015 by claire

Beautiful, textural piece using a combination of different techniques

If you’re not yet familiar with Karen Nicol’s work the we suggest you start looking! Karen Nicol is an embroiderer and mixed media artist, who also specialises in fashion and interiors from a London based design studio.

Interiors Work

Some of her work has been used by Anthropologie, Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang, Harvey Nicholls and many more very well known brands and designers! We love her unusual, organic style and take on fashion and interiors using a mixture of free machine and hand stitch techniques.

Fashion (lace)

She uses combinations of Irish, Cornelly, Multihead, beading and hand embroidery in her work which creates a dimensional style unique to her! The lace design above was created using an Irish sewing machine to create the bold black lines on sheer fabric, then layered with a piece of openwork to create an impacting piece for fashion.

Beautiful art pieces using goldwork and mixed media

We love the use of combining silk shading and mixed media with intense couching of gold threads on these pieces of artwork above.
